January 12, 2019, MBCA BC Stars Award Dinner

January 12, 2019, MBCA BC Stars Award DinnerA Happy New Year to all our Members! The BC Stars brought in the New Year with the 2019 Awards Dinner once again at the Pier 7 restaurant in North Vancouver. This is our annual Club get-together to celebrate the great times of our past year’s accomplishments, and to share what we would like to see for the year ahead. Our BC Stars Section President, Matt Peck, hosted a wonderful evening for us arranged by Linda and Gary Pullyblank. We had a delightful time with old friends and new.On a sad note, our very active and much-loved Member, Marion Rutherford, passed away over the Christmas holidays. Marion, along with her husband Don, always brought great enjoyment to any event. She was very much missed.2018 was a hard year to better, under the guidance of Matt, our new President. We did have some challenges with the uncertainty caused by the re-organization of our main sponsor, Mercedes-Benz Canada, and the loss of Shipbuilders’ Square, our regular Show & Shine venue. We did, however, have some unprecedented successes, also. Jeff Shindler, our Regional Director and one of our own from BC, actively made his mark this year as the only MBCA Regional Director from Canada.2018 was the first time our MBCA Section participated in a high-profile auto exhibition. Matthew Peck, our “Prez”, managed to somehow finagle us a display booth at the Vancouver International Auto show, at the downtown Convention Centre. With the willing loan of cars and volunteer help of many Members, we were able to put on an eye-catching Mercedes display for the public. Our Section Newsletter was successfully revamped by Editor Joseph Anthony and his dedicated staff. Joseph received this year’s Member of the Year Award.Sean Clark greatly appreciated his local award for Outstanding Dedication, and Joe Woloshyn received his own Special Award as Youngest MB Owner. Each year, our Club plays an active role in an annual charity event, the German Car Festival. We had an incredible turnout, well handled by the BC Stars assistance to Rod Meares’ BMW Club. Our volunteers helped make the event a resounding success, surpassing donations of previous years. Many thanks go to Section Vice President, Tony Millikin, for yet another great Show & Shine event. Tony and his volunteer crew, put on a very professional show and won us a lot of attention. Tony and Matt managed to secure two very iconic W201 cars for display, the Eddy Lai “Flying Tiger” race car, and a very rare 2.5-litre EVO 2 Cosworth-powered homologation. Our MBCA National Board Vice President, Steve Ross, visited us from San Diego, to help officiate and hand out awards. He was very impressed that we counted 86 cars onsite that day, and we displayed cars they were unable to obtain for the Legends of the Autobahn, at Pebble Beach. Quite a coup!To sum up, we had an exceptionally great year. Thanks to the willing efforts and enthusiasm of all our Members. Photos: Bruce Woloshyn and Sean Clark
